Get Ready For Winter With An Insulated Garage Door3rd March 2014

sectional electric garage door

Up until recently the only proper insulated garage door available was a sectional type door, a door based on panels constructed from 40 – 45mm thick double skinned steel panels with rubber seals between each panel and rubber seals all around the frame and a large rubber seal on the bottom panel all providing excellent insulation and protection from dust, leaves, rain and the like.

The sectional garage door is still one of the best insulated doors available and recently Hormann introduced a Thermoframe option kit for their LPU 40 range providing even higher levels of insulation for doors fitted to the back of any garage opening using bigger rubber seals and a thermal break for the framework.

3 SWS Seceuroglide White Roller Doors installed. The ‘insulated’ roller garage door has been around for some time as well but the levels of actual insulation offered by a roller door vary greatly depending on so many factors.

Once again however Hormann have an engineering masterpiece to offer, the Hormann SB insulated roller door.

This roller door does offer levels of insulation far higher than all the others on the market but is generally used more as a commercial door system. We are offering it now regularly as a domestic garage door option with all the benefits of a larger and deeper 90mm insulated steel or aluminium slat and larger side guides too. This roller door is ideal for large openings too.

For the more regular size openings and where insulation is not a massive issue the Seceuroglide, Gararoll, Gliderol and regular Hormann Rollmatic offer the best in domestic roller garage doors with a wide choice of colours and finishes and all made to order for an exact fit.

Carteck Georgian Side Hinged Door in whiteOne of the most interesting products recently available in the UK has been the double skinned steel insulated side hinged garage door system from German manufacturers Carteck
(Teckentrup in Germany).

On offer is a superbly engineered 40mm double skinned side hinged door system, always made to order and available in a massive choice of configurations and colours.

The doors come complete with an aluminium box sub frame with rubber seals al round and a threshold supplied as standard. The door panels have rebated edge too with rubber seals in and the result is a very well sealed door indeed when closed, ideal for a lot of garages used for office, workshops, games rooms, etc but also for any garage which is integral to the house.

We have other new innovations in doors with insulation and another is the Domina trackless sectional door. This is a totally unique garage door constructed from a double skinned timber or steel panel which is always in 2 sections on any door size but with an operating mechanism not seen on any other type of door. The insulation levels are very good on this door but it also is an interesting concept for anyone not liking tracking inside their garage. Take a look on this page

We also offer 'round the corner' door systems using insulated sections such as the Hormann HST or the Vertico aluminium RTC door. We offer insulated pedestrian side doors for the garage too in a massive selection of designs and colour finishes standard and made to measure.

The co ordination of your garage with your front door can also be achieved with one of the superb Hormann Thermopro entrance doors. These doors have excellent insulation levels and again Hormann have recently raised the bar even higher with the Thermopro PLUS range. These entrance doors are a massive 65mm thick and can achieve the magic levels of insulation required by so many architects these days. The Aluminium TOP range of entrance doors go even further with doors up to 100mm thick!!

Insulation may not be a priority for many but having a garage that is well sealed and certainly secure is always a requirement for most and what we are finding is that the sealing, security and insulation properties of a garage door are fast becoming one single combined property in so many of the new doors now available to buy.
