Q:What is the largest up and over door I can buy?
The largest steel up and over door would generally be regarded as 16' x 7' (4877 x 2134) although you can get larger doors in timber and a little bit bigger from European manufacturers.
Garador will manufacture a standard steel up and over garage door at 16' x 7' (4877 x 2134) PLUS the steel fixing sub frame to make an overall width of 5019 x 2194. They will make a purpose made door slightly wider at 5000mm plus the frame.
Hormann will make a 5000mm wide door but higher at 2375mm from their DF98 range of doors. Timber garage doors are available as one piece up and over doors at up to 18' x 7'6" but you must be fully aware of a considerable amount of deflection on the door panel when open due to the massive weight of the panel. This will reduce your drive through height quite a bit especially if you add in the strengthening struts across the back of the door panel.
Large garages usually do not have a lot of headroom so it is always worth checking out the alternatives to up and over doors when you get to larger sizes as the options are usually much better and go even wider. Sectional garage doors for example are made up to 8000mm wide as standard. Round the corner doors can be limitless in width in certain styles. Roller doors generally are available up to 6000mm wide for domestic use.
Have a good think before deciding on a garage door that may not give you what you need once fitted!!
