Q:What is a de latch security device on an electric up and over garage door?

It is a mechanical device that adds beneficial extra security once a remote control electric operator has been fitted. A de latch security kit is a mechanical device that utilises the manual locking provided for a retractable one piece up and over door and operates the manual locking via a spring loaded mechanical device when the electric operator towing arm begins to pull the door up. The short video below is best to explain the device which is normally only around £120 - £150 fitted and covers most manufacturers doors. The video shows the de latch working on a Hormann retractable door with locking steel rods internally..

Without this device you have to disconnect or remove the manual locking and rely only on the electric operator towing arm pressure at the top of the door when closed, leaving loose play in the bottom of the door.
