Q:Can I open and close an electric garage door with my Iphone?
Yes, this is possible using existing technology either as a new roller door installation or piggy backing onto existing controls.
At present you can buy a brand new Seceuroglide aluminium insulated electric roller garage door and use recently launched technology to enable the use of an Iphone or indeed any smartphone to control the roller door using a Wi-Fi router and remote access via the internet or Ethernet. The Seceuroglide Connect system enable you to use your phone like a normal transmitter and the whole system is 'plug and play' for easy installation.
Further enhancements are due to enable the control of internal and external lighting purchased with the door and using the latest LED low voltage technology. No software is needed with this Connect system, only Wi Fi router and internet connection and the Connect control module of course which is around the £280 mark.
With the same Seceuroglide roller door also comes the option of the 'Connect PLUS' system enabling control using any mobile phone from either making a call or texting a message to the door. You can control your door and also control other users access using their own telephone numbers for trades people for example. The system also will return a status report so you can text your door and it will tell you whether it is open or closed. This GSM technology has existed for many years and is very reliable for day to day use.
We can supply the module for the Secueroglide and the unit is about £200.
With the Seceuroglide roller door these units are also able to be retrofitted for any door purchased since February 2013.
Technology also exists to enable you to 'piggy back' these control systems onto certain existing remote control systems but quite often in this scenario the control may be only part of a larger scheme around a home where specialists in these systems are involved.
