Type & Price Guide
Electric Timber Swing Gates

Electric Timber Swing Gates

Electric Timber Swing Gates

Material:

Timber

Size:

Double

Electric Operation:

Included

Description:

Electric Timber Swing Gates - Double Leaf

Prices Range:

£12,000 - £18,000

Most double width entrances are going to be between about 3.5m and 4.5m when a double set of entrance swing gates are used. The resulting drive through width is fine for any vehicle but usually will be less if the leaves sit at a 90 degree angle when open. You will lose the gate leaf depth and the hinge gap too, probably about 300mm overall across an average width.

The heights are usually between about 1.7m and 2.1m for any flat top solid gates, unless they are a swept arch design, common with timber hinged gates. The price variation is greater with  hardwood timber gates because we offer at least 5 different timber species for construction, depending on preference and very much influenced by the design too.

Electric Hardwood Timber Swing Gates

Electric Hardwood Timber Swing Gates

There can be nothing more beautiful than a proper set of timber entrance gates. If you love wood, then you probably already have used wood on other external parts of your home and timber make sense. Not only that however, hardwood timber gates, properly manufactured with seasoned timber and also treated properly, preferably in the factory as they are made, can last for so many years and have the benefit of easier repairs if damaged.

Timber can outlast other materials quite easily if chosen and maintained properly. It is a misconception that timber is troublesome as a material, that is usually just cheap softwood timber species used externally and with a light finishing treatment giving this impression to many.

Another great feature of timber gates is they can almost always be unique to each home, not only in size, but also final design and of course in the graining and final finish.

Timber Species Recommended for Entrance Gates

*Iroko - Most common timber for stability and durability

*European Oak - A request for the sheer beauty of the grain but a difficult species

*Accoya - A modern and interesting timber process to get a very long guarantee

*Idigbo - Another popular hardwood used in exterior joinery

*West African Mahogany - Used occasionally and very beautiful when finished

These timber species are all far heavier than any softwood used for budget price gates, but the stability on larger sizes and strength to take the stresses and strains of automation are why we only ever offer hardwood timber gates, especially in a swing leaf set up.

Price

Expect to pay between £12,000 and £18,000 for the complete and professional installation of hardwood, joinery made timber swing gates in a standard design, but bespoke size, with steel or timber support posts, electric automation equipment with access controls and most importantly, the required safety detection systems for total compliance in the UK with basic regulations and law. This isn’t an option, we do not install remote control automatic gates in domestic or commercial applications without safety detection systems, they would not be legal in the UK.

This price range would be for a pair of solid design, premium hardwood timber gates with a choice of various designs available as well as a choice of timber species for the gates and support posts or even cladding over steel box section posts. We can advise on the best timber species to use but often customers have their own opinions and want to match other timber already used externally.

The electric motors can be above ground, piston type drive or under ground motor units depending on other factors on site and with the design and size.

Controls would normally be 2 remote handsets and basic keypad entry system as a minimum, but of course there are so many other access control options, including smartphone or GSM control through your mobile phone where you can also take the call from the entrance  anywhere with or without a camera system built in.

Professionally surveyed, specified, manufactured and installed with a full after sale service and maintenance programme offered. We make sure the gate is the best it can be for the space and specification required, with maximum reliability and safety from the equipment used.

There is nothing worse than a problematic electric entrance gate system……

Timber Species Choice

Choose from some very hardy, sustainably sourced and suitable hardwood timber species offered for most designs of gate available.

The graining and final finish will be greatly affected by the timber used to make the gates but most important of all is being suitable for being used eternally and in our very aggressive UK climate.

Hidden Strengths

* Very strong and resistant to damage when a hardwood timber species is used
* Sustainable sourcing for the timber
* Easy to repair over most other materials
* Grows more beautiful with age when maintained
* Designs offered not always possible with other materials
* Can be retreated and changed in colour quite easily

Visible Strengths

70mm sections for all main parts of gate generally used  and 20mm thick minimum for tongue and groove board infill sections.
Factory finish in controlled environment with Teknos professional timber treatment systems
All panels ledged and braced with mortice and tenon joints for overall strength
Treatment before assembly for the best overall finish and longevity
Timber board sizes are usually cut to me the same regardless of size to avoid infill sections at the edges

Our View from 38 years of experience….

When it comes to electric timber entrance gates you cannot really afford to compromise in any area. Budget softwood gates will fail quickly and swing type operation has far more pressures exerted during operation, so high winds can affect the operation if the automation equipment isn’t strong enough to deal with the pressures. If you are looking for high quality, hardwood, joinery made, timber entrance gates then we can assist, but they will never be a budget system.

Making entrance gates electrically operated isn’t just bolting on some electro mechanical or hydraulic drive units, it is specifying the gate to work with the right equipment and making sure they are built to take the stresses and strains too. It is building a machine which has harmonious working parts to ensure the best result every time it is operated.

Worryingly, we also still see high numbers of electric entrance gates sold without safety devices and this is not legal in the UK. It is dangerous and irresponsible of the users, with high stakes should there be an accident or worse.

All our electric gates are built for purpose and hopefully last many years beyond their standard warranty as well. We can sit back and know our systems are compliant, safe, reliable and also built with longevity in mind. Take a look at any of our previous 38 years of work to see many automated systems which are still operating today.
