Type & Price Guide
Electric Timber Sliding Gates

Electric Timber Sliding Gates

Electric Timber Sliding Gates

Material:

Timber

Size:

Double

Electric Operation:

Included

Description:

Double width and single leaf hardwood timber electric sliding gate

Prices Range:

£10,000 - £19,000

Most double width entrances are going to be between about 3.5m and 4.5m in the UK.

A sliding gate can maximise your driveway entrance, but only if you have space the same width plus some extra to one side for the gate to slide into. We often see sliding gates used for much wider openings as the issues with wind are so much less.

Heights are normally between about 1.5m and 2.1m for any flat top solid timber gates. If they are a swept arch design then the height variations can be more pronounced depending on your choice of design. The price variation is greater with hardwood timber gates because we offer at least 5 different timber species, depending on preference and often influenced by the gate design too, or indeed customer preference to match existing timber used elsewhere on the property.

Our timber sliding gates are always made to measure in every way, but with a common theme of a professional manufacturing process.

Electric Hardwood Timber Sliding Gates

Electric Hardwood Timber Sliding Gates

A proper, professional, joinery made hardwood timber gate is indeed a thing of beauty.

If you love timber already then you probably already have used it on other external parts of your home and timber gates then make perfect sense. We have found over many years customers either love timber or avoid it in reality. All we can do is consistently recommend the use of proper seasoned and treated timber species, suited to larger gates and their construction.

Cheaper softwood timber gates are honestly a waste of time and will last a very short time, depending in their size and exposure to the sun.

Hardwood timber gates, properly manufactured, with seasoned timber and also factory treated properly, can last for many, many years and have the benefit of easier repairs if damaged. Timber gates can outlast other building materials if maintained properly. It is a misconception that timber is troublesome as a material, that is usually just cheaper softwood timber species used externally and with a light finishing treatment giving this impression to many. Another great feature of timber gates is they can almost always be fairly unique to each home, not only in size, but also final design and of course in the graining and final finish.

We do have some standard designs to refer to but in reality as gate sizes are nearly always different the proportions and designs tend to change quite a bit.

Timber Species Recommended for Sliding Timber Gates
*Iroko - Most common timber for stability and durability
*European Oak - A request for the sheer beauty of the grain but a difficult species
*Accoya - A modern and interesting timber process to get a very long guarantee
*Idigbo - Another popular hardwood used in gates
*West African Mahogany - Used occasionally and very beautiful when finished

These timber species are all far heavier than any softwood used for budget price gates, but the stability on larger sizes and strength to take the stresses and strains of automation are why we only ever offer hardwood timber gates, especially in a swing gate set up.

Price

Expect to pay between £10,000 and £19,000 for the complete and professional installation of hardwood, joinery made timber sliding gate in a relatively standard design, but bespoke size, with steel or timber support posts, electric automation equipment with access controls and most importantly, the required safety detection systems for total compliance in the UK with basic regulations and law. This isn’t an option, we do not install remote control automatic gates in domestic or commercial applications without safety detection systems, they would not be legal in the UK.

This price would be for a pair of solid design, premium hardwood timber gates with a choice of various designs available as well as a choice of timber species for the gate and support posts or cladding over steel posts. We can advise on the best timber species to use but often customers have their own opinions and want to match other timber already used externally.

The electric motors can be above ground, piston type drive or under ground motor units depending on other factors on site and with the gate design and size.

Controls would normally be 2 remote handsets and basic keypad entry system as a minimum, but of course there are so many other access control options, including smartphone or GSM control through your mobile phone where you can also take the call from the gate anywhere with or without a camera system built in.

Professionally surveyed, specified, manufactured and installed with a full after sale service and maintenance programme offered. We make sure the gate is the best it can be for the space and specification required, with maximum reliability and safety from the equipment used.

Features

Timber Species Choice

Choose from some very hardy and totally suitable hardwood timber species offered for most designs of gate.

The graining and final finish will be greatly affected by the timber used to make the gates but most important of all is being suitable for being used eternally and in our very aggressive UK climate.

Hidden Strengths

Very strong and resistant to damage with hardwood timber

Sustainable sourcing for the timber used.

Easy to repair timber over most other materials

Grows more beautiful with age when maintained

Designs offered not always possible with other materials

Can be retreated and changed in colour quite easily

Security

Sliding electric gate systems always offer excellent levels of standard security for a property, simply by their basic mechanics and the gate leaf effectively being held on both sides when closed to resist a forced attempt by a person or vehicle. Swing gates can be forced open unless they have proper maglocks on each leaf and some other features to increase forced resistance.

Our View from 38 years of experience….

When it comes to electric timber gates you cannot really afford to compromise. Budget softwood gates will fail quickly, not having the strength to last over time and also deteriorating faster in the exposed UV and harsh winter weather conditions in the UK. If you are looking for high quality, hardwood, joinery made, timber entrance gates then we can assist, but they will never be a budget gate system. We do offer lower priced timber gates using a steel framework chassis system however to reduce the timber used and overall weight. Just ask for details as they can work better on really large entrance sizes.

Making entrance gates electrically operated isn’t just bolting on some electro mechanical or hydraulic drive units, it is specifying the gate to work with the right equipment and making sure the gates are built to take the stresses and strains too. It is building a machine which has harmonious working parts to ensure the best result every time it is operated.

Worryingly, we also still see high numbers of electric entrance gates sold without safety devices and this is not legal in the UK. It is dangerous and irresponsible of the users, with high stakes should there be an accident or worse.

All our electric gates are built for purpose and hopefully last many years beyond their standard warranty as well. We can sit back and know our gates are compliant, safe, reliable and also built with longevity in mind. Take a look at any of our previous 38 years of work to see many gates which are still operating today.
